Biography
A South Haven based photographer, Karen Murphy has become well known for her "Lakeshore/Landscapes".
In addition to her lakeshore specialty, she photographs a variety of subjects including nature,
commercial, and various commissioned work. When photographing favorite subjects, her goal is to
portray the seasons and moods on the lakeshore and countryside in a way that leaves a unique impact
on those who view these images. Because gardening is another of Karen's favorite activities, the
opportunity for new images is endless.
Over the years her work has received recognition and has won numerous awards from organizations,
including the Krasl Art Center, Saugatuck-Douglas Invitational, Holland Friends of Art, and the
South Haven Art Association. TDI phone books selected her wildlife photographs for use on the
covers of their telephone books. Karen's images have also appeared in Shoreline Living, Michigan
Tourist Monthly and Windsurfer magazines as well as in many promotional brochures.
Karen's states "It is my honor to regularly donate my images for Southwestern Michigan tourism
promotion and to charitable organizations in South Haven. I enjoy being a member of the South Haven
Chamber of Commerce and the West Michigan Tourist Association. "
Karen is marking her 25 year milestone as a professional photographer by offering a limited
edition poster, signed and numbered. It can be purchased by email or by telephone.
The "Gallery Shop" has been her home base for the past 13 years, featuring a large selection of
photographs, a variety of limited edition South Haven stationary and custom framing services. Open
year around, the Gallery Shop is in an historic two-story barn in a lovely country setting of flower
gardens and woods. It is located just one mile east of South Haven, at 10241 CR 689 (¼ mile north of
M-43), South Haven, MI 49090; telephone (269) 637-5492. The Shop is open Thurs.-Sun., 1-6 pm and by
appointment.
Karen's works are also exhibited and available for sale at the annual South Haven Art Fair in July
as well as at the Macdonald Drug Store in South Haven.
